Fiore Films has revealed that the company is in talks with John Travolta to star as New York City mob boss John Gotti in the upcoming "Gotti" biopic.
"We would love to have him," Fiore told Entertainment Weekly. "He's a terrific actor. John Gotti, Sr. — he's an icon. And so is Travolta. The Gottis have an image already. People know who they are. You can't just be a good actor, you have to be a great actor who can become John Gotti."
The film is about three generations of the crime family, but will be told through the eyes of Gotti's son John Gotti Jr. Fiore is finalizing a deal with Nick Cassavetes (The Notebook, John Q) to direct. James Franco is also in talks for a supporting role.
The plan is to begin filming during the summer and Fiore is already comparing the film to another famous mobster film. "It's going to be the new 'Godfather,'" said the company. "It's a story about a father and a son, but the father happens to be John Gotti Sr."
