Lindsay Lohan has opened up about her latest spell in jail admitting, 'I've made a lot of poor decisions and I'm dealing with the consequences of those decisions.'
Making a previously unplanned visit to Jay Leno's The Tonight Show to talk about being jailed, she explained, 'I was kind of shocked. I didn't expect the outcome to be what it was. But I'm a big girl and I'm going to do what I'm told to do. I'm taking responsibility.'
Asked if she was treated unfairly, she insisted, 'I think that I was treated the way I should have been treated.'
And as for jail, she said, 'It was an interesting experience and it was definitely a wake-up call. But everything happens for a reason.'
She added, 'I'm not a kid anymore. I'm 24, I've made a lot of mistakes and I recognize that. I'm in the clear now, and as long as I stay focused, I can achieve what I want to achieve.'
Asked what she would like to change, she said, 'Just the public perception. I want public knowledge to be about my work, not about things I didn't get into this business for. I think you lose sight of what you really love.'
At the beginning of the interview she confirmed that she has been signed up for her first movie in many years, about the Gotti crime family.
'I met John Gotti when I was three years old - I don't remember that, I'd be lying if I did,' Lindsay said, leading Leno to quip, 'Hanging out with Gotti when you were three - that could be why you got into so much trouble.'
'Oh thank you - I was waiting for that to come up,' Lindsay said, rolling her eyes.
But Leno seemed to have heartfelt feelings for Lindsay, who first appeared on his show as a young girl star actress.
'I really believe you - I think you're going to be great, I think you're going to turn everything around,' he told her. 'We're really pulling for you.'
