John Travolta In Talks For Lead In Gotti Biopic
By Eric Eisenberg
As evidenced by his roles in Pulp Fiction and Get Shorty, John Travolta is at his best when he plays a smooth gangster. Unfortunately, his last three roles have been in The Taking of Pelham 123, Old Dogs, and From Paris With Love. Years away from being reinvented by Quentin Tarantino back in 1994, it's now time for him to get back to doing what he does best and he may do so by playing John Gotti in a biopic.
EW has learned from the executive producer of Gotti that Travolta is currently in talks to play The Dapper Don. Set to be directed by Nick Cassavetes (The Notebook), James Franco - who apparently is contractually obligated to be in every single movie nowadays - has also been sent a script and offered the role of John Gotti Jr. Set to look at three generations of the notorious crime family, the producer, Marc Fiore, is so confident in the project that he actually said, and this is a direct quote: “It’s going to be the new Godfather.”
To be honest, I'm kind of at a loss for words after that last quote. Written by Leo Rossi and John Gotti Jr., the film plans to go into production this summer.
